Positive Affirmations

Photography by Archie Elf

When we look at ourselves we try to find the flaws. To point out all the imperfections. This makes us feel self conscious and we forget about all the beautifull things that surround us, protect us, contain us. Being hypercritical is never a good thing and can lead to stress, anxiety and when practised to extremeties, depression.

To try and reverse this negative pattern we can use positive affirmations. There are two steps to change your thinking and it can take up to four months to work.

Choose one of the statements from below, or make up your own, and repeat it twenty times every day or more frequently if you would like.

  • I am strong

  • I have strength

  • I am determined and successful

  • I am a good and worthwhile person

  • I am a unique and special person

  • I have inner strength and resources

  • I am confident and competent

  • I hold my head up high

  • I look good because I am good

  • People like me – I am a likeable person and I like myself

  • I care about others, I am needed and worthwhile

  • I am a loving person

  • I have a lot to be proud of

  • I have all that I need

Now everytime you think of something negative about yourself you have to think of five positive things about yourself. Eventually you wont want to think of all the positive things so you won't have negative thought in the beggining.
